February 4, 2008 NAEA Meeting

-    We have a new Wiki page thanks to Sarah!

-    There are some helpful links on the right hand side:

o    Lesson plans: area to upload new and recommended lesson plans.

o    Spring 2008 Schedule: information about upcoming meetings, events, and locations.

o    Study for the TExEs Exam: Information about preparing for the exam.

o    If you have any ideas for other pages, tell Sarah (sc1341@txstate.edu) or play around on the wiki yourself!

We went over some printing and sculpture terms at the meeting that are essential for art educators.  These can be found on the "Study for the TExES" page.

Tips for Matting and displaying student artwork:

o    Tips: easier and saves time to make mat that protects the work and can be reused, allowing easy insertion and removal of art work. Easily done by taping a sheet protector to the back or a transparency first, then a sheet of backing paper (otherwise you have to tape the art work on as well).

o    Useful clips for hanging artwork: www.plasticlip.com

o    When using mylar over a piece, begin taping in the middle on the back and work your way outward going from one side to the other to stretch properly. Hairdryable shrinkwrap works just as efficiently with out this hassle, can find at Hobby Lobby and Michael's.

o    Check out Dick Blick's stikki clips

o    Good reasons to display artwork:

♣    Children will work harder if they know their work will be seen

♣    Parents take pride in seeing childrens artwork

♣    Boosts self esteem

♣    Promotes art program

o    Check out this video on YouTube: Using the Logan 750 Simplex plus Matt Cutter

o    Teri Evans-Palmer has a wonderful power point on displaying student work along with some great tips.
