Study for the TExES with the information below. 

 

Printing terms:

♣    Monotype- Done on a table, only one print produced

♣    Monoprint- form of relief printing; can be repeated to produce multiple prints in different colors

♣    Frottage- Surrealistic rubbings done by Max Ernst

♣    Stencil- Printing through holes, basic type of printmaking; ex: silk screen

♣    Linocut- (Linoleum) a relief process similar to woodcuts, not sculptural process, can make multiple prints

♣    Planographic- printing an image using a plane or flat surface that is altered, ex: monotype and lithograph.

♣    Intaglio - Print created from a plate in which lines and textures have been cut, scratched, or etched with acid.-Ink is forced into the lines for printing. etchings also mezzotint processes

♣    Lithograph- stone drawing, wax based crayon - a planographic process

♣    Collograph- building up to make print, additive process.

       Relief - lines and areas are cut from the surface. Ink is put on what surface is left and then the image is printed.

 

-    Sculpture terms:

♣    Additive process- wire, clay, found objects, paper mache plaster

♣    Subtractive process- carving, clay, plaster, relief

♣    3 basic processes:

•    carving

•    modeling

•    assembling

♣    Armature- Support system in additive sculpture.

♣    Stabile- doesn’t move, usually a massive sculpture on tiny supports - also invented by Calder

♣    Mobile- Kinetic, balance is important, invented by Calder,

♣    Monolithic form- Large stone sculpture, subtractive, never additive.
